Deputy Editor-in-Chief, World Nutrition
Journal of the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA), United Kingdom

Academic Profile

Dr. Stanley Irobekhian Reuben Okoduwa is an accomplished medical biochemist, toxicologist, research scientist, and public health scholar whose work bridges fundamental biochemical research, nutrition science, and applied public health innovation. His interdisciplinary scholarship integrates experimental biochemistry, nutrition-related metabolic disorders, toxicology, and policy-relevant public health nutrition.

He currently serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of World Nutrition, the flagship peer-reviewed journal of the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA). In this editorial role, Dr. Okoduwa contributes to shaping the journal’s scientific direction, ensuring methodological rigor, policy relevance, and adherence to the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity.

Academic Training and Professional Appointments

Dr. Okoduwa obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Medical and Clinical Biochemistry from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria. He subsequently earned both his MSc and PhD in Medical Biochemistry and Toxicology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where his training emphasised experimental pathology, metabolic disease, and toxicological evaluation.

He is currently a Research Fellow at the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Nigeria. Between 2021 and 2024, he served as Senior Lecturer and Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator in the Department of Biochemistry, Babcock University, where he played a central role in postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and academic mentorship.

Editorial Leadership and Publishing Expertise

In addition to his Deputy Editorship at World Nutrition, Dr. Okoduwa is actively engaged in scholarly publishing and journal administration across multiple platforms. Through these appointments, he contributes to strengthening editorial workflows, production quality, research visibility, and ethical publishing practices in both national and international journals.

Research Output and Scholarly Impact

Dr. Okoduwa has authored over 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications spanning medical biochemistry, toxicology, environmental and public health nutrition, phytomedicine, and metabolic disease. His scholarly output demonstrates strong citation performance and international visibility, including recognition in the 2025 AD Scientific Index, where he ranked among the top researchers at NILEST based on total citations, h-index, and i10-index.

A landmark contribution of his research is the development of the Fortified Diet–Fed (FDF) rat model for Type 2 diabetes research, published in PLOS ONE (2017). This innovative dietary model established a reproducible experimental framework for studying Type 2 diabetes and defining insulin benchmarks, and it continues to serve as a reference in experimental diabetes research.

Research Focus and Innovation

Dr. Okoduwa’s research agenda is driven by the objective of improving human health through contextually relevant and scientifically rigorous inquiry. His core research interests include:

  • Type 2 Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders — dietary, biochemical, and experimental models for disease mechanism and therapeutic evaluation

  • Phytomedicine and Bioactive Compounds — screening and characterization of indigenous medicinal plants

  • Toxicology and Environmental Health — chemical exposure risk assessment and safety evaluation

  • Public Health Nutrition — evidence synthesis, nutrition equity, and policy-relevant nutrition research, particularly in low- and middle-income settings

Professional Service and Applied Impact

Beyond academia and publishing, Dr. Okoduwa is actively engaged in scientific leadership, innovation, and health communication. He is the Pioneer Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), having previously served as National Public Relations Officer and Zonal Coordinator.

He is also the Project Director at SIRONigeria Global Limited, a knowledge-driven organization that supports digital solutions, publishing, and research communication. Additionally, he is the Founder and Executive Director of the InfoHealth Awareness Group (IHAG), a nonprofit organization dedicated to disease prevention and public health education, and the Managing Director of K3 Foods, a science-based enterprise producing nutrient-rich food products aimed at improving food security and reducing malnutrition.
